What’s the 10-Letter Word for Homeschool Success?

Conference Meeting Seminar Modern Contemporary Concept

IF you have tried everything that my colleague Sara Jones suggested in an earlier blog to POWER UP your homeschool, and you still need some help, maybe it’s time to bring this bonus word into play to boost things to the next level!

Gimme a C-O-N-F-E-R-E-N-C-E!! That’s right! Whether you’re thinking about homeschooling, homeschooling and in a rut, homeschooling and loving it, or wrapping up the last leg of the journey, there’s something you can glean from even a few hours at a homeschool conference!

Still not convinced you need to take a day or two out of your busy life for this? Here are five good reasons to rethink ignoring this conference season ahead:

1. Things are always changing…sometimes faster than we can keep up! Conferences always bring out fresh ideas, research, curriculum, and a lot more.

2. It’s a day out (or more) amongst grownups! Ok, true that many conferences have youth programs or you can choose take them with you to vendors and books galore, but honestly I LOVE immersing myself in a whole group of like-mindedness and soaking it all in! (I call it embracing my inner nerd.)

3. Sometimes you don’t know best! Don’t be afraid to admit that and listen to professional opinions on curricula; connect with our Special Needs Education Consultants, High School Consultants, or Early Years Consultants; and glean advice from encouraging speakers!

4. A sense of community…it’s nice to feel like you’re part of something bigger! The number of homeschoolers continues to grow, and it’s empowering to know that you are doing what’s best for your children and there are a lot of people like you!

5. You can get a babysitter! Yes, true this one is as much for the kids as it is for you! Nothing says excitement like a babysitter for homeschooled kids! They love us, sure, and all of our assignments, projects, manner coaching, and instruction, BUT- sometimes it’s actually a welcome treat when they get a break from us!

If you don’t believe me, try it for yourself! If you start planning now, it’s likely that you can find a local conference, but if not, don’t be afraid to take a road trip! Grab a friend, spouse, or family member and keep an open mind! Find conferences near you!

Here’s a conference that my friends and I regularly attend and look forward to for  rejuvenation! Conference season is the perfect time for reflecting on your year so far, looking ahead to what’s around the corner, and ways to execute and remediate your homeschool strategies! Take advice from some motivating moms that will help you breathe in the sweet now. Replace your discouragement with encouragement, be thankful for your opportunity to homeschool, and know that here at HSLDA, we’ll support you every step of the way!

Silly me. I thought the 10-letter word for homeschool success is “graduation.”
