I am…a struggling learner.

The struggling learner world is a complex one for both parents and students. It’s sometimes difficult to figure out what is going on and it’s a challenge to figure out how to help. As a parent, you often go from one role to the next within minutes, juggling the needs of your child. It can be exhausting physically, mentally, financially, emotionally and spiritually. So take time to say to yourself, “I’m not perfect but I’m trying. I am doing my best and using my resources. I am praying for my child and for the direction, wisdom and guidance that will take us so much further than we could go alone”.

Imagine what it’s like for your child not knowing why things don’t make sense, add up, or work the way they think they should. It’s emotional, mental and physical turmoil for them as well. They may not be able to explain exactly how they feel or why. They may not even understand that something isn’t quite on track.

If you think you might be the parent of a struggling learner, I would encourage you to take the time to really understand the fullness of the struggle your child is dealing with so that you may be able to specifically target the necessary help. Early intervention is priceless. It might be a simple curriculum change, a gentle modification, or a specific diet change or type of therapy. Here at HSLDA you have support and guidance. We understand where you are coming from and will lend an ear, a prayer or both. You are not alone and your struggling learner can thrive!
