Welcome to My World! |Introducing Tracy Klicka MacKillop to the Blog!

OR - Welcome to My World - Introducing Tracy Klicka MacKillop to the HSLDA Blog 2 - TKM - HSLDA Blog

Hi, everyone!

Some of you may be familiar with the name Klicka, as my late husband Chris, was Senior Counsel for HSLDA from 1985 until his death in 2009, following a 15-year battle with MS. Homeschooling now as a widow certainly has its challenges, yet I’m so thankful for all the years God gave our family together. I’m especially grateful that God has been with us every step of the way!

I have seven children, ages 24-14, five of which are girls (with a set of twins), and two boys. Two of my daughters have graduated from college and are now married, with two other children finished with their homeschooling. I am still homeschooling three children (all in high school now).  I also work part-time at the Home School Foundation (www.homeschoolfoundation.org), the charitable arm of HSLDA. This makes for busy days with homeschooling and providing for my family, yet God is so faithful to help us.

Welcome to My World - Introducing Tracy Klicka MacKillop to the HSLDA Blog 2 - TKM - HSLDA BlogOver the last 25 years, our family has experienced some pretty crazy seasons with lots of ups and downs along the way. From being diagnosed and coming close to death with ulcerative colitis in 1987, right after our first child, Bethany was born, to almost losing our twins, Charity and Amy in uteri in 1995 through a high-risk pregnancy, to Chris’s rapid progression of his MS in the early years of his diagnosis to his passing at the young age of 48, we have learned that there no such thing as a “normal” homeschool day. Not only that, but every challenge and trial has taught us to lean hard on God and see His amazing grace 24/7.

Even though there have been plenty of difficulties, we’ve also experienced much laughter and fun amidst the hardships. And the joys of teaching my children at home have far outweighed the tests along the way. I’m getting closer and closer to the finish line now, and I don’t want this race to end. I’ve loved being both mother and teacher to my kids, and I cherish every day He’s given us. I also love seeing what my children are becoming as they grow and mature into adults—they are my best friends!

Welcome to My World - Introducing Tracy Klicka MacKillop to the HSLDA Blog - TKM - HSLDA BlogThrough my Everyday Homeschooling posts I’ll be sharing a lot of stories with you about our family, as well as things I’ve learned from the Master Storyteller of our lives. He writes the best stories, full of adventure and excitement; of course, there are a few twists and turns en route, but they have been the inspiration for my homeschooling motto, “Semper Gumby!”

If I’ve learned anything in our homeschooling journey, it’s that “God is good…all the time!” It’s my hope that you, too, might come away from our time together, tasting the goodness of the Lord, just as one of my favorite verses says,

“O, taste and see that the LORD is good; how blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” –Psalm 34:8

Welcome to the journey…there’s no place like home,
